Frequently Asked Questions

How much do your charters cost?

An offshore charter on Speechless is $2400 (+ tip for mate). Also, there is a small “booking fee” here on the site that goes directly to the company that supplies the payment tool on this site.

6 total customers is the maximum allowed by law.

(Keep in mind, fuel alone costs the boat about $1,000 per trip, and then there’s the cost of paying crew, maintenance, etc.)

What type of fish can we expect to catch?

The time of year will dictate in many ways what you’ll catch, but Tuna (Yellowfin, Blackfin, Albacore) are common throughout the year, as are Mahi Mahi. Bluefin and Big Eye tuna come out at various times as well. North Carolina is also famous for its various types of Billfish (Swordfish, Marlin, Sailfish) and you can certainly catch other species as well.

Are we guaranteed to catch fish?

You’re guaranteed to have an amazing day on the water, but there are rare occasions when the fish don’t cooperate. This is why it’s called “Fishing” and not “Catching!” 🙂 That being said, it’s pretty likely you’ll catch, but not guaranteed.

What do we need to bring?

First and foremost, bring a smile and a great attitude, as this catches more fish!!

Bring anything you want to eat or drink with you, stay hydrated!

Bring your own sunscreen.

We HIGHLY recommend you take Dramamine the night before, then another dose in the morning (non-drowsy). Take it in the morning with food, as that works out best.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, and the Professor, Capt. Ron Edwards, has his Captain’s License.

How do I reserve a charter?

Simply use the booking tool on the site. It’s fast and easy.

What time does the boat leave in the morning?

Generally speaking, the boat leaves around 5-530am in the morning. The Captain will call you the day before the trip to confirm the time.

What happens if weather doesn’t permit fishing?

We want to fish as much as anyone, but there are times when the weather simply doesn’t cooperate. In these situations, you’ll get a 100% refund for your trip, assuming we’re unable to reschedule.

If my trip gets canceled due to weather, will you just automatically book me on the next available charter?

Unfortunately, if your trip is canceled due to weather, we cannot automatically book you for another time, unless there is an open spot. This is certainly something we can discuss at time of trip cancellation.

What makes your charter any different??

If you’ve watched our YouTube channel, you know we have a different style. First of all, we have an express style boat, which means the captain is with the crew instead of being separated from everyone. We intentionally chose to do this so that The Professor can be with the crew and everyone will have a much more hands-on, learning experience.

Will our trip be on YouTube?

Most likely! Another reason why we’re unique. This way, you’ll have a video that makes for a wonderful souvenir of your experience. Keep in mind though, we won’t embarrass you on camera, as we’re only looking to promote wholesome experiences that bring joy to everyone involved. Our customers LOVE this part of the experience.

What kind of boat will we be using?

Our boat was built in Wanchese NC by the renowned team at Blackwell Boatbuilders. It’s a 40′ express boat, 15′ wide, with plenty of seating (It feels like a very large 40′ boat, you’ll see when you get on it). We have a bathroom with a toilet, fridge, freezer, etc.

Will Marcus from the YouTube channel also be on the boat?

Occasionally, yes. But if you’d really like him to ride along, make sure to mention it with your purchase. Sometimes he can attend trip if he knows in advance a customer is interested.
