Meet The Team

The people behind the boat, the brand, and every trip on the water.

Captain Ron - The professor

Ron Edwards

Co-Founder - Captain - "The Professor"

Ron grew up fishing. His dad had him on the water from a young age, and over time it became one of the biggest parts of his life. What started as fishing with his family turned into a lifelong passion for understanding the water, the fish, and everything that goes into a successful day offshore.

By trade, Ron is a carpenter and builder. He has spent decades working with his hands and building things that last. But even while he was working, fishing was always on his mind. He says once his own son got old enough to fish, that passion went into overdrive. Watching his son catch fish bigger than he was at five and six years old pushed Ron even deeper into it. Fishing stopped being a hobby and became what he loved most.

Over the years, Ron became someone people trusted when they wanted help finding fish, learning new water, or figuring out offshore fishing. Marcus says he reached out to Ron because he was one of the only people he knew who had put in the time to really learn offshore fishing out of Oregon Inlet and was willing to help others do the same.

For years, Ron dreamed about turning fishing into more than a hobby. He talks about seeing the big charter boats offshore, watching captains on the bridge with rods going off behind them, and thinking, “That is what I want to do.”

Ron is a 100-ton Master Captain with years of offshore experience. He holds federal and state permits that allow him to run charter trips, commercial fishing trips, and recreational fishing trips throughout the Southeast. He also carries permits for dolphin, wahoo, snapper, grouper, tuna, and other offshore species through NOAA and North Carolina.

In addition to his captain’s license, Ron has completed US Coast Guard-certified safety and survival training that includes firefighting, life raft drills, emergency communications, damage control, man overboard procedures, and survival suit training. He is also certified as an onboard drill conductor, holds an FCC radio operator license, and is part of a drug consortium program that helps ensure Speechless operates as a clean, professional charter boat.

Over the years, Ron has won multiple fishing tournaments and awards, including the Lancaster County Little League Spanish Mackerel Tournament, the Cranes Creek Cobia Cup Invitational, multiple Calcutta wins, and several junior and lady angler awards.

Even with all of that experience, Ron is the first person to tell you he is still learning, still improving, and still chasing the next great day on the water.

Marcus Sheridan

Co-Founder - Student - Fishing Fanatic

Marcus Sheridan is a professional speaker, entrepreneur, and lifelong fisherman whose career has been built around communication, trust, and helping people connect. For more than a decade, he has traveled around the world speaking to audiences on sales, marketing, leadership, and business growth.

Marcus is the author of the bestselling books They Ask, You Answer and Endless Customers. He has spoken on stages around the world, worked with thousands of businesses, and built a reputation for helping companies become the most known and trusted brand in their market.

Before becoming a speaker, Marcus was the founder of River Pools, which grew into one of the most recognized pool companies in the country and became known for changing the way businesses use content and transparency to earn trust.

Marcus has been called a “web marketing guru” by The New York Times and was named by Forbes as one of the “20 Speakers You Don’t Want to Miss.” His book, They Ask, You Answer, was also named one of the five best marketing books of all time by BookAuthority.

Outside of work, Marcus has always been passionate about fishing and being on the water with his family. He says his son is actually the reason he got so deeply into fishing in the first place. Together, they spent years fishing throughout the Chesapeake Bay before eventually setting a goal to catch a tuna offshore together before his son left for a two-year church mission.

That goal led Marcus to the Outer Banks and to Ron. After one unforgettable trip together that included a 240-pound bigeye tuna, Marcus realized they had the chance to build something much bigger than a few fishing trips. Today, Speechless is the result of that vision: a company built around unforgettable experiences, great stories, and helping people create memories that last a lifetime.

Vita - Videographer

TeVita Toia

Videographer

Tevita was born in the Kingdom of Tonga and has lived a life shaped by the ocean. He has traveled through New Zealand, Australia, and Hawai’i before settling in Virginia, where he is raising two children.

As the videographer and editor for Speechless Sportfishing, Tevita is the one behind the camera capturing the moments that make people fall in love with fishing. Every video, every edit, every frame is his work.

When he is not filming, you will find him spearfishing, free diving, coaching rugby, or spending time with his kids. He brings the same energy and passion to everything he does, whether it is behind the lens or in the water.

Doug Gray

Commercial Fishing Mate

Doug Gray has spent most of his life on the water. He grew up fishing, crabbing, hunting, and boating on the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River with his grandfathers and has been passionate about fishing from a young age.

Over the years, Doug has built a reputation as both a fisherman and custom rod builder. He began building rods in 2012 after winning the tuna division at the 2012 White Marlin Open with a 238-pound bigeye tuna. Since then, he has built custom rods for anglers and boats across the country, with rods now being used from New York to Florida and as far away as the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.

Doug’s experience includes commercial fishing, offshore charter fishing, bluefin tuna fishing, rod building, lure building, and years spent helping anglers catch their first tuna or first big fish. He has also been a part of the Speechless journey from the beginning, helping Marcus get started in offshore fishing and working alongside Ron in the early days of the operation.

As a team member of Team Right Hook, Dougs fishing accomplishments include:

  • Winner, Tuna Division, White Marlin Open, 2012
  • Winning fish: 238-pound bigeye tuna
  • Winner, MSSA Tuna Tournament, 2008
  • Winner, MSSA Tuna Tournament, 2009
  • Multiple rockfish tournament wins and placements throughout the Chesapeake Bay region

Today, Doug spends part of the year commercial fishing for bluefin tuna on board with Speechless and the rest of his time building custom rods in his rod shop
