More than a charter boat. This is a family built on a love for fishing and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Updated: May 5th, 2026
Speechless Sportfishing started with a friendship that goes all the way back to high school.
Marcus and Ron knew each other growing up, but after school, life took them in different directions. Years later, they reconnected through fishing when Marcus reached out to Ron for help learning an area in the Chesapeake Bay. That one conversation turned into fishing trips together, offshore adventures, and eventually a friendship built around family, fishing, and creating memories.
After years of chasing fish together and spending time on the water, Marcus and Ron realized they wanted to build more than just a charter business. They wanted to create something people could truly be a part of.
Based out of the Outer Banks, Speechless is built around unforgettable experiences, hands-on fishing, and making every person on the boat feel like they are part of the crew.
The name Speechless has a double meaning. Ron was speechless the day they bought the boat, but Marcus has also spent much of his life making a living by giving speeches around the world.
At the end of the day, Speechless is about more than catching fish. It is about the stories, the people, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
When you head offshore, who you are with matters. Captain Ron Edwards is a United States Coast Guard 100-Ton Master Captain and Speechless meets all required commercial and charter vessel safety standards.
The boat is inspected by the Coast Guard every two years and carries all required offshore safety equipment, including life rafts, survival suits, emergency communication equipment, and fire suppression equipment. Captain Ron has completed advanced safety and survival training through USCG-certified instructors and is certified to lead onboard safety drills and emergency procedures. We take safety seriously because we know that when you are 30, 40, or 50 miles offshore, experience and preparation matter.

What it means at Speechless:
Every charter is a learning experience. Captain Ron does not just put you on fish and hand you a rod. He explains why he chose that spot, how the electronics are reading, what the current is doing, and why the fish are where they are. You leave a trip on Speechless knowing more about offshore fishing than when you arrived.
How it shows up:
This is why we run an express-style boat. On a flybridge sportfisher, the captain is 15 feet above you behind glass. On Speechless, Captain Ron is standing right next to you, teaching in real time. This was a deliberate decision. The boat was chosen to match the value. It is also why Captain Ron built Salt Water Fishing University. The teaching does not stop when the trip ends.
What it means at Speechless:
If the bite has been slow, we say so before your trip. If conditions look marginal, we give you a straight answer. We publish our pricing on the website instead of hiding it behind a ‘request a quote’ form. We post real catch photos from real trips, not stock images.
How it shows up:
Our pricing page exists because most charter operations in the Outer Banks make you call or email to find out what a trip costs. We think that is a waste of your time. We also publish an honest breakdown of what drives charter costs up and down across the industry so you can comparison shop. Some people read that and book a cheaper boat. That is fine. We would rather lose a booking than mislead someone.
What it means at Speechless:
If conditions are not safe, we do not fish. Full stop. The captain makes the final weather call, and that decision is never influenced by whether we need the revenue or whether the customer flew in from out of state. A canceled trip can be rescheduled. A safety incident cannot be undone.
How it shows up:
We have canceled trips when the forecast looked questionable, even when other boats went out. We would rather deal with a disappointed customer than put anyone at risk. Every customer who has had a trip canceled due to weather has been offered a full refund or reschedule.
What it means at Speechless:
We follow every regulation. We respect catch limits, size restrictions, and seasonal closures. We release fish that should be released. Captain Ron explains the regulations to every group so they understand not just the rules but why the rules exist.
How it shows up:
If we are at our limit for a species, we stop targeting that species. We do not push the boundaries of what is legal. We also encourage anglers to only keep what they will actually eat. Killing a fish for a photo and then wasting the meat is not something we support.
What it means at Speechless:
A great day on the water is not defined solely by how many fish you caught. The experience, the learning, the stories, and the time spent together matter. We have had trips where the fishing was slow but the customers left saying it was one of the best days of their lives because of the experience on the boat.
How it shows up:
Captain Ron and the crew invest time in every group. They learn names. They ask questions. They make sure everyone gets time on the rod, especially kids and first-timers. The crew does not just do their job. They make you feel like you are fishing with friends who happen to know exactly what they are doing.
Every crew member on Speechless is chosen not just for their fishing skills but for their ability to teach, communicate, and make people feel welcome. Captain Ron’s standard for a mate is simple: Can they rig, gaff, and work the deck at a high level? And can they do all of that while making a first-time angler feel comfortable and excited? If the answer to both is not yes, they are not on the boat.
